Clinical Microbiology Sessions
Session on: ClinicalMicrobiology
ClinicalMicrobiology involves the detection, characterization andquantification of Microbes from an organism to enable the diagnosis, managementand treatment of infectiousdiseases. Aerobic and anaerobic bacteriology, mycobacteriology, parasitology, virologyand mycology are performed in ClinicalMicrobiology laboratories. ClinicalMicrobiology is a rather complex study, because it utilizes manydifferent types of methods and it constantly undergoes testing methods changes.

Session on: Immunology
Immunology dealswith the physiological functioning and malfunctions of the immune system instates of both health and disease in immunologicaldisorders like hypersensitivities, allergies, immune deficiency, autoimmune disorders and transplant rejection. The immune system protects usfrom infections. The failure of immune system functioning can result indiseases like allergy, autoimmunity and cancer. Immune responses contribute alot to the development of many common disorders.

Session on: ViralInfections
Viralinfections can cause infectious diseases like flu, common cold and warts, and severe infectiousdiseases like HIV/AIDS, Ebola and smallpox. Immune system fightsagainst the infection, and the failure to kill the infectious agent can causeseveral diseases. Viral fever is caused by viralinfections, and viruses are small infectious agents. Bacterial and viralinfection have many things in common. Viruses can only survive witha host. The infection type is identified by tests like stool/blood/urine forculture test and it can be identified under the microscope.

Session on: ParasiticDiseases
Parasites uses living things likebody, place or food to live, and they are living macro or microorganisms. ParasiticDiseases are infectious disease and it can occur because ofcontaminated food or water, or can occur due to a bug bite, or sexuallytransmittable. Only some type of parasiticdiseases can be treated, where as some parasiticdiseases cannot be. The parasites size vary from tiny, one celledorganisms called protozoa to worms, which are visible to the naked eye. Thecontaminated water supply can lead to Giardia infections. Parasiticdisease like malaria are common in all other parts of theworld.

Session on: Infectiousdiseases
Infectiousdiseases are diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi. Some microorganisms are harmless and helpful, but under certain conditions itcauses disease. Infectiousdiseases can be transmitted from one another or by insects or animalbites. Where as some can be transmitted by contaminated food or water. Symptomsand signs vary depending on the cause of infection, but common symptoms includefever and fatigue. Some infectiousdiseases like measles and chickenpox can be prevented by vaccines.

Session on: InfectionControl
Infectioncontrol is more concerned with preventing health care and nosocomial associatedinfection, and epidemiology is it’s sub-discipline. Infectioncontrol helps to prevent and control the emerging infectiousdiseases, and it is a part of health care infrastructure. Hospitalepidemiology and infection control are taken to public health care practice, practiced with particular health care delivery system rather than directed tothe society. Antibiotics, antifungals, antibacterial, antivirals and antiprotozoal are anti-infectiveagents.

Session on: Antimicrobialresistance
Antimicrobialresistance occurs when microorganisms are exposed toantimicrobial drugs. Currently clinicalmicrobiology study aims to discover microbial resistance which isspreading worldwide. Also it threatens the ability of treating commoninfections, which causes illness, disability and sometimes death. Procedures inmedical like cancer chemotherapy, diabetes, surgeries and organ transplantationwould be critical without an effective antimicrobials to prevent and treatinfections.

Session on: PharmaceuticalMicrobiology
Theresearch and development of anti-microbial agents are included in PharmaceuticalMicrobiology. Decreasing the growth of microorganisms can be studiedin process environment, in order to remove microbes and residual microbes likeendotoxin and exotoxin from water and other materials, PharmaceuticalMicrobiology confirms that the end product is free fromcontamination. To analyse the product reaction in cases of contamination anddrug safety are the main focus of PharmaceuticalMicrobiology.

Session on: FoodMicrobiology
The mainfocus of FoodMicrobiology is food safety. Most of the diseases are transmittedthrough food, virus and bacteria are the main focus. In this area of foodmicrobiology it is studied that viruses and bacteria are eliminatedwith proper cooking, Whereas the toxins are produced by contamination and itcannot be changed to non-toxic forms by cooking or sterilizing the contaminatedfood because of some food safety conditions. To produce fermented foods likeyoghurt, curd, bread, cheese, beer and wine microorganisms plays a major role.

Session on: Infection and Immunity
Thepathogenesis of infection has to diagnosed to identify the infectiousdisease, in order to treat and raise the immunity against theparticular disease. To control the infections caused by animals, antimicrobialagents can be used. To prevent microbialinfection hygienic practice have to be followed. Immunity plays themajor role in communicating between the microbes and the host. The immunesystem has to be build up in many ways to control the viral and bacterialdiseases, in order to directly kill the pathogen, which acts to hinder thereplication.

Session on: MicrobialBiofilms
Microorganismsassociates and microbial cells adhere to each other on a non-living or livingsurfaces called microbialbiofilms. Bacterialbiofilm is mostly infectious in nature and it leads to nosocomialinfections. Bacterialbiofilm is a public threat and it is less accessible to human immunesystem and antibiotics, because of its nature of causing deadly infectiousdisease. Formation of biofilm is a multi-step process which startswith surface attachment and then the micro-colony formation which finally endswith maturation followed by detachment.

Session on: Immunotoxicology
Theadverse effects on functioning of systematic and local immune system leads to immunotoxicology. As observed in animals and humans it is clearly demonstrated that theindustrial and environmental chemicals can affect the immune system adversely.Immune system alteration can cause immunosuppression or exaggerated immunereaction. Immunosuppression leads to severity of infectious disease or cancer. Immunotoxicologydeals with toxic substances and it explores the mechanisms which underlies theeffects in biological system.

Session on: MicrobialImmunology
Tounderstand the molecular mechanisms with the use of microorganisms as a host, which cause disease or disorders in animals or humans is studied under Microbialimmunology. Nutrients are gained by microorganisms from the host, which grows to multiply by reproduction, and the process is harmful whichaffects the negatively to the host body. To understand the staggeringstructures used by microbialpathogens, immunologists and microbiologists uses gadgets ofinherited characteristics, sedate coordinated efforts, destructivenesscomponents and biophysics.

Session on: Autoimmuneand InflammatoryDiseases
Autoimmunediseases occurs when our own immune system attacks our body. Normally, ourimmune system guards against microorganisms like bacteria or viruses by sensingthe foreign invaders and it send army of fighter cells to attack the foreignorganism. The defence mechanism in the body is called inflammation. The immunesystem recognizes irritants, damaged cells and pathogens to begin its healingprocess. The inflammation signs and symptoms can be uncomfortable because thebody is trying to heal itself.

Session on: Bacteria and Fungi
Bacterialand viral infections are mainly caused by microbes. Theseinfections are transmitted by sneezing, coughing, contaminated water, food, andsurfaces, contact with infected humans, creatures(which includes pets, insectssuch as ticks and fleas). Infectious diseasesand disorders are caused by bacteria, fungi, virus or parasites, and the treatments differ for bacteria and virus infections, so it is importantto know about the cause of an infection, but it difficult to identify the causeof the infection because both the infections show similar symptoms. The type ofinfections are identified by some test such as urine/stool/blood for culturetest to identify the bugs under a microscope.
